Project Details

Garden Bluffs was identified as a Nature Conservancy priority based on its rich biological diversity, important fishery habitat, endangered plant and animal species, Lake Michigan shoreline habitats, and relatively undisturbed character. The Nature Conservancy received funding from the GLFT for fee acquisition of 179 acres, including 2,750 feet of Lake Michigan shoreline, along the western shoreline of the Garden Peninsula adjacent to Big Bay De Noc. The acquisition represented Phase III of a four-phase, multi-partner effort to protect 1,153 acres of coastal wetland and adjoining upland habitat, including nine miles of biologically significant and relatively undisturbed shoreline.
