Project Details
Consistent with the mission of Manistee’s Explore the Shores program, the Bar Lake project, located on property owned and maintained by Manistee Township, involved the development of access for people of all ages, needs, and abilities to access the Lake Michigan beach to fish for migrating salmon and trout and to learn techniques for successful shore angling for these species. The project constructed handicapped designated parking, a universally accessible viewing and staging area, a universally accessible ramp with railings that leads to the beach, and moveable hard-surface platform sections that take anglers to the water’s edge. There also is an interpretive/educational sign that informs visitors about the site, issues facing the Great Lakes, the importance of water stewardship, and successful angling techniques.
