Project Details

Two fishing platforms that can accommodate up to four anglers were constructed according to principles of universal design over a heavily fished area for migrating salmon, trout, white sucker, and walleye.

The improvements at the site include a universally accessible fishing platform and walkway, which are maintained by the United States Forest Service. There is an educational and interpretive sign at the site that includes information about the Explore the Shores program, as well as the history, development, and use of the site and the importance of water stewardship. The sign also includes a narrative description and accompanying photos to teach people how to effectively use artificial lures such as spoons, spinners and body baits to hook and land salmon and trout. Even as this site was being constructed, anglers were fishing from the foundation of the fishing platform and catching migrating Chinook salmon. This site is an example of how outstanding access opportunities can be provided through partnership, in this case a partnership between the Explore the Shores program, the U.S Forest Service and the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians.
