Project Details

The National Wildlife Federation and our partners expanded our successful invasive Asian carp communications campaign to broaden our base of support and convert this into implementation of the Brandon Road plan (Plan). Over the past two years, we: 1) Ramped up communications calling on action from key decision makers; 2) Developed and deployed solution-oriented messaging in addition to building awareness; and 3) Expanded our geographic focus to constituencies in the Ohio and Mississippi River Basins that are currently impacted by Asian carp by supporting control and eradication strategies. We sought a major increased investment from the GLFT to double down our efforts to ensure that the Brandon Road plan is finalized and nationalizing the effort to combat invasive Asian carp from further spreading throughout the Great Lakes and across the country. The increased investment and expanded effort helped the Brandon Road project become authorized by Congress, helped the design agreement for the pre-construction engineering and design phase to be signed by the state of Illinois and the U.S. Corps of Engineers (Corps) and helped Congress increase resources for non-Great Lakes states to implement monitoring and control efforts to stop the spread of invasive Asian carp.
