Project Details
The Sucker River H-58 road crossing was a long-standing Michigan DNR Fisheries Priority Habitat Conservation project aimed at improving aquatic organism passage. The crossing was also an unreliable sea lamprey barrier which results in regular lampricide treatments throughout the system. This project replaced perched culverts with a free-span bridge and will build a new seasonal sea lamprey barrier upstream. This two-stage approach improves stream health and connectivity while addressing lamprey infestation in a difficult-to-control system. Through partner collaboration, the project reconnected 95 miles of stream and creates a reliable barrier to block invasive sea lamprey, achieving both passage and control goals. The final reportis available here.
