2025 Ecosystem Health and Sustainable Fish Populations: Ecological and Biological Research to Inform Management - Ecological and biological fisheries research to inform management

Project Summary

Watershed scientists will research the Grand River, MI lake sturgeon population to estimate the spawner populations and recruitment of fall age-0 fish. The team will use two approaches that include split-beam sonar imaging of spawning sturgeon and genetic analysis of young sturgeon. This information will assist in appropriate management decisions to protect and improve the Grand River sturgeon population and is a technique that could be applied to similar turbid rivers.
